Country Boy, I love you!

This past weekend, my parents and little sister visited me! They drove to Ohio to move my other little sister into college, and then visited for the weekend.

Mary, my youngest sister, and I share the same sense of humor. Everything I find funny, she finds funny, and vice versa. We reminisced on things that made us laugh this weekend, but one video came up more than any other. It's a stupid vine that can be found here. We probably watched it a thousand times, and laughed harder and harder every time.

Since my parents were sleeping in my room, Ben and I were on an air mattress in the living room. He was trying to sleep and I kept saying, "Country boy, I love youuuuu aaaahhhh" in his ear, and needless to say we were both laughing pretty hard. He slapped a pillow in my face and we joked around for awhile after that before we fell asleep.

It had me thinking a lot today about why humor is so important, in every relationship. Some people choose humor when they are in awkward situations. Some people laugh during serious things. It's how they cope. Some people choose to laugh when they are extremely depressed or sad inside. They are constantly making other people happy, but they are unhappy themselves. But the best feeling is when you are genuinely happy with another person, and you can make each other laugh. Being serious all of the time, especially in a relationship that is already strained by outside influences, is dangerous. Having a sense of humor and not taking life too seriously will really help keep relationships on the right track.

Some examples of finding humor in my life:

1) When I was sweating through my wedding dress and my maid of honor, Sandy, brought me to the bathroom and held my dress up while I peed. For how anxious I was feeling and how scared I was, we couldn't help but laugh at the hot mess that was my situation. (Future brides - BRING LOADS OF DEODORANT),

2) When I was in Germany and some old German men wanted to take me and some friends to a yodeling bar in some sketchy alley, (which, looking back was probably harmless) but caused a fight between my friends because of our conflicting feelings about the whole thing.

3) I lived in a very old house in college, and sometimes the maintenance got the best of us. It was frustrating to come home to a non-working washer and dryer. It was even more frustrating when the sink hose would get stuck and the handle wouldn't always click back into place. A few times, we've flipped the water on only to be sprayed in the face/torso. It was maddening and hilarious at the same time.

Having my family here was awesome. Laughing with my family was awesome. Humor is so important, especially when going through hard times. Choosing to laugh is almost is great as choosing joy. Be happy!
